Overview

Strong. Distinctive. Naturally Architectural.

Spotted Gum Cladding is one of Australiaโ€™s most durable and visually distinctive hardwoods, widely used in architectural faรงade and design applications, and is suitable for exterior use on saunas. Sourced from coastal regions of New South Wales and Queensland, it is valued for its natural strength, longevity, and expressive grain patterns.

Featuring a rich colour spectrum from pale brown to deep chocolate tones, Spotted Gum creates dynamic and organic surface variation that enhances modern and natural architectural designs. Its moderately coarse texture and characteristic wavy grain often produces an attractive fiddleback figure, making each installation unique.

With Class 1 above-ground durability and very high density, Spotted Gum is engineered by nature to perform in demanding external environments while maintaining its structural integrity and aesthetic appeal over time.

Important Information

Natural Weathering or Coated Finish

Spotted Gum Cladding is typically supplied in a natural, unfinished state for on-site finishing flexibility. When left untreated, it will naturally weather over time.

Alternatively, it can be coated with penetrating oils to enhance and preserve its rich natural tones. For maximum colour retention and long-term UV protection, we recommend Osmo UV-Protection Oil.

Film-forming coatings are not recommended for external weather-exposed applications.

Can Spotted Gum be used for saunas?

Thanks to its heavy durability, Spotted Gum Vee Joint Cladding is perfect for the exterior cladding of your sauna. Due to its high thermal conductivity, it is not suitable for use in the interior of your sauna.
